Protected Structure, Via Cappuccini 10
Albino (BG), Italy.
For the "Protected Structure" of the Honegger Foundation in Albino (BG), in via Cappuccini 10, the energy redevelopment was respectful of the historical identity of the complex.
The building, dating back to the early twentieth century and stratified over time by successive extensions (80s and 2018), was extremely heterogeneous both architecturally and in terms of plant engineering.
Thanks to the close synergy between the design phase and the execution phase, the intervention was able to aesthetically and technologically standardize the entire complex. The project has preserved the historical value of the twentieth-century portion by improving its living comfort and energy efficiency.
Key figures and results
Details of innovations
and interventions
Thermal restoration of the historic envelope
Global insulation of the façades and roof by means of rock wool panels. In the period portions, in order to safeguard the original decorative frames and eliminate thermal bridges (cause of condensation and mold), the special prefabricated monobloc system insulated and patented by MIR, finished with fireproof insulating frames that faithfully reproduce the historical geometries and support the new blackout shutters, has been applied.
External volumetric expansion
In the building of the eighties, the balconies now unused and considered critical points of heat dispersion have been radically transformed. Working solely from the outside, the surfaces of the balconies have been incorporated into the interior of the rooms, regularizing the line of the façade, improving the performance of the envelope and laying the foundations for a future renovation of the interior spaces for guests.
Technological rationalization and green energy
Unification of the systems with a new high-efficiency factory-made hybrid system (air-water heat pump and condensing boilers) for air conditioning and domestic hot water. The system is powered by a 140 kWp photovoltaic system assisted by 48 kWh of storage batteries.
Indoor comfort and BMS control
Integration of a controlled mechanical ventilation (CMV) system to ensure the highest indoor air quality. The entire technology hub is supervised by an advanced Building Management System (BMS) for centralized monitoring and optimization of remote energy flows.
